Q: I am in pain. Can I still start / continue with Pilates?
A: Generally Pilates exercises can help to alleviate pain, especially back pain, as the lengthening of the spine takes pressure off discs and nerves. Please discuss any issues before each session. If symptoms continue, I can advise on the correct of action.
Q: I am pregnant. Can I still start / continue with Pilates?
A: BCP is wonderful for pregnancy, as it develops the correct abdominal and pelvic floor muscles to support the baby and aid delivery. It also develops the shoulder stabilising muscles which support the extra weight of the breasts. If you are new to Pilates it is advisable to wait until 14 weeks gestation.
Q: How often should I practise?
A: Most people do one or two classes per week, however to gain the most benefit from the method, some exercises should ideally be practised daily. However, Pilates is about retraining movement patterns, so even going about your day to day living whilst thinking about recruiting muscles as you would in class, will aid your development.
Q: How long before I can see the results?
A: Joseph Pilates said, “In ten sessions you will FEEL the difference, in twenty you will SEE the difference, and in thirty you will HAVE a new body.” However, although everyone develops at different rates, everyone will see a difference.
Q: I am a beginner. What do I need to know?
A: As a beginner all you need to know is which class you are attending and we will teach you the rest.
Q: What should I wear to a class?
A: Stretchy, fair close-fitting clothing is best (as I need to be able to see the positioning of your joints). You do not need any footwear other than socks.
Q: What happens if I miss a class?
A: Missed classes may be “made up” at another appropriate class if there is space available. However, missed classes may not be “hung over” for more than one term. (Please note, only the Warrington based classes have this availability at present)
Q; How big are the classes?
A: There is a maximum of twelve people in a class.
(Please note, occasionally classes may be merged, but if this means there are more than 12 clients, Louise and Megan will teach the class together).
